Become a May Day event builder.

May Day is an inclusive event for everyone to participate and enjoy in our city’s most prestigious facility, Queens Park Stadium. Her majesty Queen Elizabeth II herself attended in 1971 to witness our fine city come together at its best and The New Westminster May Day Community Association is proud to introduce the same spirit to this city once again. It’s time to bring people, traditions, identities and history together again.

A brief history of May Day.

May Day in New Westminster started in 1870 and is recognized as the longest and continuously run event in the Commonwealth of 54 Nations. The spirits of the nearly 500 remaining residents were put into hard times, due to the end of the Gold Rush and the loss of the Provincial Capital title to Victoria, BC.

May Day was started as a morale booster and ultimately lead to the creation of our historic May Day. This celebration brought people from all over and quickly became one of the biggest attractions in the province.
